Altercation leaves one Jacksonville homeless man with an ‘laceration to the head’

A maintenance man in Jacksonville found a homeless man injured Friday in a vacant home.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call around noon Friday from a maintenance man who says he found a lot of blood inside a vacant home he was checking on Shamrock Drive off Gum Branch Road, according to officials.

Someone may have been in the house when the maintenance man entered, according to what officials say they were told.

The homeless man was later found injured at Azalea Apartments. He had a head laceration injury. His name has not been released to the public but the man was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police say the man had not told them who his altercation was with.

The incident remains under investigation.
