News In Onslow reported to you first this story on January 9, 2017 after the family of missing 22-year-old Shelby Brianne Brown told us that they believed the partially decomposed body found by teenagers was hers.
On December 31, 2017, the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a body being discovered in the Thomas Humphrey Road area of Jacksonville. The deceased was that of a white female, according to a press release. An autopsy was conducted by the State Medical Examiner in Greenville, North Carolina on Monday, January 8, 2018. A cause of death has been determined but is not being released to the public pending the active criminal investigation.
Based on information obtained through the investigation and results of the autopsy, the deceased has been identified as Shelby Brianne Brown, 22 years old. Brown was reported missing on January 3, 2018 by her mother. The report was that Shelby Brown was last seen on December 3, 2017 in Sneads Ferry, N.C. and was possibly in the Jacksonville area on the night of December 4, 2017.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
This case is being investigated as a homicide. The Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone that may have any information on Shelby Brown’s activities and associates to report them.
