An Onslow County bus driver who has been accused of mistreating students throughout her career and recently being accused of negligence, harassment, and bullying another student has been identified.
The parent of the said student is Chrystal Pfortmiller, a mother who trusted the Onslow County School system to which has failed her and her child after he was negligently mistreated by his bus driver on Swansboro bus #72.
Pfortmiller said that her son was violently ill and got very sick on his bus #72 on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. The bus driver allegedly began to yell, berate and threaten Pfortmiller’s son with punishment, regarding his sickness. In a Facebook post, posted by Pfortmiller on Nov. 14, the bus driver allegedly accused her son of getting sick purposely just “to be a jerk.”
Pfortmiller said the other children on the bus began filming the reactions on their cell phones.
News In Onslow worked tirelessly with the parent of the student concerning this incident as well as other parents who have a story of their own about how much of a b*** this particular bus driver has been.
Kathleen M. Kelly, known as “Kathy,” 42, of Hubert, is the woman that Onslow County Schools has allegedly been refusing to terminate after multiple complaints on November 14, and throughout Kelly’s career as an Onslow County bus driver.
In the continued Facebook post, Kelly was also accused of throwing a trash bag at the student, instructing him to clean up the mess.
Seven days later, the Onslow County School system refused to address this incident as well as release the footage of the incident that has been demanded by us, News In Onslow, and other parents in the community. Kelly has not been terminated, as she was spotted on bus #72 Tuesday afternoon, November 21, 2017, by co-workers. Aside from the recent incident including Kathleen Kelly, another parent, Rae Panos, stated that she has been reporting Kelly for over a month to Swansboro bus coordinator Judy Kugler O’Donnell, who was assisting Kelly last Tuesday, November 14, 2017, and is also a good friend of Kelly.
Panos said her complaints were consistently “brushed aside” by O’Donnell. The complaints made by Panos to O’Donnell before finding out they were friends, consisted of mistreatment of the children, constant screaming, being rude, and alcohol that numerous kids allegedly saw Kelly with on the bus.
O’Donnell contacted Panos about Kelly but insisted that she did not care for Panos concerns and told her that there was no way her claims were true. She instructed O’Donnell that she did not feel at ease or safe with her child on the bus with Kelly. O’Donnell told her, that she would see what she could do but never got back in contact with her. O’Donnell, aboard bus #72 on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, witnessed the mistreatment of another parent’s child by the bus driver whom she called a friend, and refused to release any information regarding the bus driver, or recommend her termination. It seems as though, O’Donnell is trying to save both her and Kelly’s job.
O’Donnell also is being accused of humiliating, the child Kelly accused of humiliating as well. According to parents, both adults made unnecessary remarks to the student in front of other students on the bus. One student said that Kathy told the student who was violently ill: “You’re going to get real far in life by crapping your pants.”
Students had to stand up and block O’Donnell for getting her verbal licks in against the student after she bombarded him on the back of the bus. The student was threatened with In School Suspension (ISS) and screamed at. Some parents have expressed that their child doesn’t feel safe riding the bus with Kelly, after seeing how she treated another student.
Kelly has also been accused of spitting at students, screaming in their face, false write-ups, bullying, harassing and allowing other students to get away with bullying other students she has a problem with. The Onslow County Schools need to release an official statement and terminate both Judy O’Donnell and Kathleen M. Kelly.
