An Onslow County man has been arrested for accidentally shooting himself in the lower neck/shoulder area.
Officials say on December 8, 2017, they responded to a report of shots being fired on Winery Road in Sneads Ferry, when they discovered that Jerry Wayne Spencer Jr.,30, had been shot. Spencer accidentally shot himself in the lower neck/shoulder area and was transported to Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.
Spencer shot himself with a sawed-off shotgun. He was arrested January 26, 2018, after he was released from medical treatment, according to a press release. Deputies recovered a sawed-off single barrel 20-gauge shotgun from the scene.
Spencer was taken before the magistrate and charged with:
(1 count) Possession of Firearms by a Convicted Felon and (1 count) Manufacture-Assembly-Posse
Spencer was placed in the Onslow County Detention Center under a $60,000 secured bond.
