Man arrested for attempted murder in Jacksonville shooting

An 18-year-old Jacksonville man has been arrested after he nearly killed 2 people in Jacksonville early Tuesday afternoon.

Octavious Tyress Bryant, of 422 Myrtlewood Circle in Jacksonville was charged by Jacksonville Police with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is in the Onslow County Jail under a $575,000 bond.

It happened around 2:04 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of Myrtle Wood Circle where 26-year-old Manzell K. Smith Jr., was found shot. Smith was transported to Camp Lejeune’s Naval Hospital and then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he remains in critical condition.

21-year-old Neino R Parker, who also was a victim declined medical transport.

Officials with Jacksonville Police say a fight broke out in which Bryant pulled out a handgun and shot several times, striking both Parker and Smith.

Bryant was arrested at 775 Jim Blake Rd. Lot 6 in Jacksonville at 4:27 p.m.

He was booked into the Onslow County Jail around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
