Man leads Onslow Co. sheriff’s office on two-county chase with a stolen motorcycle

A Hubert man is in the Onslow County Jail Thursday night under a $13,000 secured bond after he led Onslow County deputies on a two-county chase Wednesday.

Brian Joseph Pongratz, 35, is facing possessing a stolen vehicle, possessing a controlled substance and a number of other charges related to the two-county chase. Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a report of a stolen 1998 Yahama R1 Sports bike in Hubert Wednesday after they were told by the owner of the bike that he saw it on Sand Ridge Road and was following it.

The motorcycle was initially reported stolen on Jan. 29. Police say the driver refused to stop when deputies tried to pull him over. He led them on a chase through Queens Creek Road, Belgrade Swansboro Road, into the Stella area of Carteret County, back into Onslow County onto Riggs Road, Old 30, Hwy 172 to Bear Creek Road.

No injuries were reported.
