The man police say admitted to allegedly killing two people inside the home he lived on New Year’s Day had his first court appearance Tuesday morning.
His name is McKinsey Ray Britton, 28, and he is charged with two counts of open murder in the shooting death of his mother, Connie Britton, 56, and Dowell Gray, 71 both of North Topsail Beach. Britton neatly dressed in an Onslow County jail orange jumpsuit made his way into Onslow County’s District Court with his court-appointed attorney Wally Paramore.
Britton is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear back in Onslow County District Court on January 22, 2017.
North Topsail Beach police first homicide call was only one hour after 2017 had just ended. Officials say they responded to a 3rd Avenue residence where they met Britton in the doorway who told them he had “just shot two people inside the home.”
