Officials in Duplin County has confirmed that Devin Danielle Wright, 27, of Wagon Ford Road in Beulaville resigned in August while authorities investigated accusations that she was having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Wright was arrested by N.C. State Bureau of Investigation on February 23, 2018, and charged with three counts of sex acts with a student and three counts of indecent liberties with a student, according to police warrants. The 17-year-old student attends East Duplin High School and Wright is accused of engaging in sexual intercourse with the student between March 10 and March 12 of 2017 in Onslow County, according to warrants. Officials in Duplin County say Wright was suspended immediately after the allegations were brought to their attention and the sheriff’s office was contacted.
Executive Director of Administrative Services for Duplin County School, Dawn S. Craft, released a statement:
“Duplin County Schools provided full cooperation and assistance as this matter was investigated. The safety and well-being of students is the school system’s highest priority, and all necessary and appropriate action was taken at the conclusion of the investigation into this matter,” Craft said.
According to Craft, Wright was employed with Duplin County Schools from August 18, 2015, through August 16, 2017.
Wright was released from jail on a $28,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Onslow County District Court March 2, for her first court appearance.
